Meet Matt
Matt has been an active performer in Charleston, SC for over twenty years. A former member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, his credits also include performances with the North Charleston Pops!, Charleston Stage, and the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Over the past eight years, Matt has broadened his musical palette to include a wide range of folk percussion instruments such as the bodhrán, spoons, washboard, asalato, and his personal favorite—the rhythm bones.
A dedicated educator, Matt has been part of the Charleston teaching community since 2003. He maintains a thriving private lesson studio at Hungry Monk Music, located at Fox Music House in North Charleston, SC.
Why the Pocket Percussionist?
The idea for the Pocket Percussionist was born from the concept that nearly all of the percussion instruments that Matt plays can fit right inside his back pocket!
Originally from Holbrook, Matt Masie holds a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and a Master of Music in Percussion Performance from DePaul University in Chicago.
